Men's Soccer Settles for Soggy Weekend Split

The King's Men's Soccer team journeyed north on Saturday to take on Word of Life in an HVIAC contest. The first half was a back and forth battle as both teams had 7 shots on goal, and each team had a pair of corner kicks. However, only Word of Life was able to capitalize when Tracy Kenyon scored an unassisted goal in the 18th minute. That was all the scoring in the first half as the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The rain picked up in the second half and so did Word of Life's offense as they outshot King's 13-3 in the second frame although King's did hold a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Noah Barrett, Richard Cummings, and Ben Oldham led the way for King's with 2 shots each, but despite a few near misses, the Lions could not find the back of the net. Word of Life tallied 4 goals in the second half for the 5-0 win. Seth Atkinson made 6 saves in the net for King's.

The Lions did not have much time to lick their wounds as they had to play another HVIAC game on Sunday against Vaughn. This game had been postponed from earlier in the week. While the Lions may have struggled to score on Saturday, they exploded for 14 goals on Sunday in a match that might in fact propel them into the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs. King's outshot Vaughn 34-2 in one of their strongest offensive performances in a decade. The win improved King's to 2-2 in the conference and 4-5 overall.

Ten different players scored for King's led by Richard Cummings and his 2 goals and 3 assists. Max Pleban, Marcos Cabral, and Malik Syed each had 2 goals, Syed also added an assist. Becket O'Neil, Edwin Perez, and Brennan Kitson-Jones each scored a goal. Leocciano Callao and Luke Kerley had a goal and assist and Sam Johnson picked up a goal and 2 assists.

The Lions have another HVIAC game on Wednesday when they host Five Towns College.
