Lady Lions Volleyball Ends Season With Victory

The King's College Women's Volleyball team ended their 2022 campaign with a 3-0 victory against Yeshiva University (NCAA D3) at the All Seasons Sports Academy in South Plainfield, NJ. Junior Bella Rush led King's in scoring with 13 points, 8 kills, 6 assists, 5 services aces, and 9 digs. Senior Alex Kemsley finished with 11 points, 10 kills, a service ace and 2 digs while fellow senior Elizabeth Aguilar added 8 points with 3 kills, 1 assist, 5 service aces, and 6 digs. Sophomore Rachel Guerra contributed 9 points from 8 kills and a blocked shot. Senior Abby Roth led in the assist department with 18 to go along with 6 points, 6 service aces, and 1 dig, and freshman Liana Gonzalez chipped in with 2 assists and 8 digs. Junior Eliana Adler rounded out the scoring with 3 points on 3 services aces to go with 8 digs.

This marked the final collegiate games for three seniors: Alex Kemsley, Abby Roth, and Elizabeth Aguilar. The three student-athletes have been instrumental to the growth and success of this team over their athletic careers at King's. The team won back-to-back HVIAC Conference championships in 2019 and 2021 (no season in 2020 due to covid-19), and qualified for the USCAA National Championships in 2021. This trio of players will be tough to replace, but they have left their mark on the court for the Lady Lions and have helped establish a positive culture around the team.

The team finished 7-8 this season but played the fourth toughest schedule according to the USCAA power rankings. They went 5-3 over their final eight games with three of those wins coming against NCAA D3 opponents. Coach Richard Christensen deserves much credit for guiding this group of student-athletes both on and off the court, while 2022 alumna, Samantha Klozik, shared her knowledge and passion for the game as an assistant coach this season.
