Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win

The King's Men's Soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a high scoring 5-4 shootout against Carlow. After losing a tough 3-2 decision to Bryan & Stratton (Albany) on Saturday at the Penn State Brandywine tournament, the Lions faced Carlow in the consolation match on Sunday.

Carlow raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first thirty minutes of the match as Janvier Ramson notched a hat trick. But Brennan Kitson-Jones scored on an assist from Edwin Perez to make it 3-1 heading into the halftime break.

Samuel Johnson scored just seven minutes into the second half on an assist from Malid Syed to cut Carlow's lead to 3-2. Johnson scored again unassisted to draw even at 3-3. Senior Ben Oldham put King's ahead 4-3 off of another assist by Edwin Perez before Ramson picked up his fourth goal for Carlow to knot the score at 4-4 with just four minutes remaining in regulation time.

The score remained 4-4 as the match headed into overtime, and just one minute in to the extra session, King's was awarded a penalty kick. Samuel Johnson stepped up and buried it for his third goal of the day on three shots as King's then protected the lead the rest of the way to take the 5-4 win.

Freshman keeper Seth Atkinson made 6 saves for King's.

Next up is a trip to SUNY ESF on Sunday September 19.
