Men's Soccer Pushed Out of Playoffs

A tough weekend road trip for The King's College Men's Soccer Team ended on Sunday with a loss to Albany College Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Going into the weekend the Lions owned 9 points in the standings table and would need to get to 13 to surpass fourth place Berkeley for the final berth in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs. (Teams earn 0 points for a loss, 1 for a tie, and 3 for a win). Had TKC and Berkeley both ended conference play with 13 points, the Lions would have advanced since they beat Berkeley 1-0 on September 28.

With a 2-2 tie to Davis on Saturday, TKC needed a win against the powerful ACPHS squad who are in second place in the HVIAC. But facing a 1-0 halftime deficit the Lions were forced to attack the Panthers with a bit of reckless abandon which often left their defensive third exposed. ACPHS took advantage of this as they put in three second half goals for a 4-0 lead.

TKC fought to the final whistle as they posted 7 shots in the second half, 3 by freshman Josiah Simons, and had 3 corner kick opportunities. TKC freshman goalkeeper Thomas Gatt did all he could as he made 13 saves to try to keep his team's playoff hopes alive.

The loss dropped TKC to 4-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the HVIAC. ACPHS improved to 9-4-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.
