Men's Soccer Draws at Davis

Men's Soccer Draws at Davis

On Saturday The King's College headed west to Johnson City, NY to take on Davis College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer contest.

The Lions got off to a fast start and had 7 corner kicks in the first 17 minutes of the game, but they could not find the back of the net. It was not until the 31st minute when freshman Mike Forcella struck for his first collegiate goal to give TKC a 1-0 lead. But just 6 minutes later Matt Bartlett of Davis would knot the score 1-1 as he beat TKC goalkeeper Thomas Gatt. TKC pressed in the last five minutes of the first half as both Josiah Simons and Sadiq Keshwani fired shots on goal only to see them stopped by Falcon goalkeeper Will Krembs as the first half ended 1-1.

The second half seemed to settle into a test of defensive wills as shots came few and far between. But TKC appeared to take control of the game as they seized a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute as freshman Josiah Simons buried a penalty kick for his 4th goal of the season. But that lead would not last long as just 4 minutes later Matt Barlett scored his second goal of the game to tie it up for the Falcons. 90 minutes of regulation play ended with the score tied 2-2 as the teams headed to overtime.

TKC managed a 4-1 edge in shots in the second overtime period including one by freshman Tom Champlin with just 14 seconds to go that was saved by Krembs. Although TKC outshot the Falcons 14-9 for the game including 5-2 in overtime and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, the final score of 2-2 would stand.

With the tie the Lions see their record move to 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in HVIAC play. Davis is now 2-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the HVIAC.
