Cross Country Team Off and Running

Cross Country team captain Charles O'Brien ran a personal best of 37:59 in the 5 mile/8K men's race as the team opened up their season Saturday at the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. O'Brien finished 72nd in a field of 120+ runners. On the women's side freshman Kaitlin O'Dell came in 30th in a field of 100+ athletes as she ran a personal best of 25:28 on the 5K course.

The meet was the first of the season for The King's College Cross Country Team, and TKC athletes are very familiar with Van Cortlandt Park. Opened in 1888 the park is one of the oldest recreational areas in New York City. The challenging cross country course is second to none and has hosted numerous collegiate athletics conference championships, regional championship events, the USA Cross Country Championships and the NCAA Championships. Some sections of the course are also a part of the East Coast Greenway a 3,000 mile long trail system connecting Maine to Florida.

The King's College runners will return to the historic park next Sunday 9/25 as they compete in the York College Invitational.
