Volleyball Wins at Word of Life

On Saturday, October 16 The King's College Women's Volleyball team made the 4.5 hour trip from New York City to visit the Word of Life Bible Institute in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains region. This was part of a tripleheader afternoon for King's and Word of Life featuring contests between their women's volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer teams.

Volleyball started off the festivities with a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-20, 25-14). The first set started off with the two teams seeming to trade points back and forth with scores of 1-1, 6-6 and 8-8. But King's players seemed to be loosening up after the long trip up the NYS Thruway and pulled ahead 15-11. The margin remained at 4 or 5 points the rest of the set before Bella Rush ended it with a service ace for a 25-21 win to open the match.

In the second set, The King's College Lady Lions jumped out to 4-0 and 12-6 leads and seemed to be in control. They extended jumped further ahead at 17-10 and 20-11 before the Huskies started to narrow the gap closing the score to 21-15, 23-19, and 24-20. But King's finished the first set 25-21 on a kill by Bella Rush from Samantha Klozik.

As the third set began, the Huskies seemed to collect themselves and took leads of 3-2 and 5-4. But King's knotted the score at 5-5 and never looked back as they surged ahead at 8-5 and 14-6. The Lady Lions increased their lead to 20-11 on a pair of service aces by Abby Roth. King's closed out the set and the match on some strong play by HaileyPaige Gilroy and Samantha Klozik.

Bella Rush had 5 kills, 4 aces and 5 digs and Samantha Klozik had 5 kills, 2 assists, 3 aces, and 9 digs. Eliana Adler had 5 aces and a dig while Rachel Guerra added 2 kills. Abby Roth had 6 assists, 5 aces, and 3 digs. HaileyPaige Gilroy had an assist and 5 digs.

King's improves to 8-5 and will take on Manor College and Penn State Scranton next weekend.
