Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Five Towns College

After a tough defeat on Saturday to Pratt Institute, the Lady Lions Women's Volleyball team traveled to Long Island on Sunday afternoon to take on Five Towns College and Nassau Community College in tri-match.

The day started off slow for King's as Nassau jumped out to 4-0 and 11-5 leads in the first set. The Lady Lions of King's never led in the set as they fell 25-19. The second set was a little better and was tied at 6-6 early on. But Nassau pulled ahead 11-7 before King's took the momentum and a 14-13 lead. But Nassau pulled ahead again and won the set 25-20 to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Lady Lions did not fare much better in the third set. Nassau took a quick 8-5 lead and the margin only grew from there as King's fell behind 14-8 and 20-11 before losing the third set 25-13 and 3-0 in the match.

The Lady Lions were down but not out as they got ready to start their match with the host, the Sound of Five Towns College. King's found themselves down 3-0 in the first set before powering back to an 8-6 lead. Five Towns bounced back to take a 10-8 lead but King's surged ahead to take a 16-14 advantage. The Lady Lions closed out the first set 25-18 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set started out 4-4 before Five Towns moved ahead 9-5. The Lady Lions clawed their way back to a 16-13 lead but the match was soon tied again at 17-17. King's won the next 3 points and held a 20-17 lead before closing out the second set 25-21. The Lady Lions seemed poised to close out the third set quickly and took a 4-2 lead. But the Sound had other ideas and raced out to an 11-7 lead of their own. King's started their comeback and the set was either tied or a 1 point margin until the Lady Lions took a 21-18 lead. King's wrapped up the third set with a 25-21 win and a 3-0 victory in the match.

Bella Rush had 8 kills, 4 service aces, and 19 digs for King's. Senior Samantha Klozik added 7 kills, an assist, and 16 digs. Eliana Adler pitched in with a service ace and 9 digs, while Ruby Anastacio contributed 5 kills and a service ace. Rachel Guerra had 5 kills and 2 digs. Elizabeth Aguilar did her part with a kill, 16 assists, 2 aces, and 7 digs. HaileyPaige Gilroy rounded out the scoresheet with 3 assists, 1 ace, and 20 digs.

The Lady Lions are off next weekend for Fall Break and will return to Five Towns College on Wednesday, October 13 for an HVIAC conference match.
