Lions Volleyball Downs the Eagles

Lions Volleyball Downs the Eagles

On Saturday, September 25 The King's College Women's Volleyball team took to the road for a quick 40 minute trip to Morristown, NJ to take on the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles. Coming off a tough midweek loss to Pratt Institute the Lady Lions were looking to get back to their winning ways.

TKC jumped out to a quick 17-7 lead in the first set and didn't look back as they took a 1-0 lead in the match behind their 25-17 first set win. The Lady Lions came out with a roar in the second set and picked up where they left off as they took a 13-4 lead. But Saint Elizabeth would not go down so easily and slowly chipped away at the lead. The Eagles tied the game 17-17 before taking a 21-20 lead. But King's finished strong and took the second set 25-22 for a 2-0 lead in the match.

Playing the match with only six players today, the Lions were hoping to win the first three sets and head back to New York City. But Saint Elizabeth had other ideas and it would not be that easy for TKC. The Eagles soared to a 5-2 lead in the third set, but King's reeled off six straight points behind the serves of Bella Rush to take an 8-5 lead. King's kept the pressure on and extended their lead to 18-12. But the Eagles took flight again and cut the deficit to 19-18 before taking a 23-20 lead. However, King's collected themselves and scored the next 5 points for a 25-23 third set win and a 3-0 victory in the match.

Bella Rush had 12 kills and 8 service aces for 20 points to go with 8 digs. Samantha Klozik contributed 6 kills, 2 assists, and 15 digs. HaileyPaige Gilroy had 3 kills, 2 service aces, and 6 digs. Alex Kemsley added 11 kills, 2 service aces, and 7 digs while Rachel Guerra pitched in with 7 kills, an ace, and 4 digs. Abby Roth rounded out the scoresheet with 30 assists and 6 digs.

The Lady Lions turn it around quickly with a 12:45 home match tomorrow at the Hill Center in Brooklyn when they take on Bay Path College.
