Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Centenary

After opening their 2021 season with a 3-0 win against Penn State Hazleton, The King's College Women's Volleyball team took on the hosting Centenary University Cyclones to wrap up the Saturday tri-match in Hackettstown, New Jersey. The Lady Lions and the Cyclones both posted wins against PSU earlier in the day and the final match provided plenty of excitement.

The match was a back and forth battle as Centenary went out in front 2-0 with 25-16 and 25-23 wins in the first two sets. But the Lady Lions did not fold and responded with a 25-23 win of their own followed by a 25-20 score to even the match at 2-2. The deciding fifth set was a nailbiter with the Cyclones edging the Lions 15-13 and sending King's home with a tough 3-2 loss.

Sophomore Bella Rush led the Lady Lions with 15 kills, 5 service aces, 17 digs and 20.5 points. Samantha Klozik had 12 kills and a team-leading 24 digs to go with 13.5 points. Eliana Adler was solid with 2 digs, 3 aces and 10 digs. Junior Alex Kemsley spiked 6 kills and 2 aces. Rachel Guerra produced 4 kills and 3 digs. Freshman HaileyPaige Gilroy chipped in with 14 digs and 3 assists and junior Abby Roth helped with 27 assists and 3 kills with 6 digs.

After two years without a match the day ended 1-1 for the Lady Lions, but more importantly, the team left Hackettstown with hope and optimism and plenty to build on for the rest of the season.

The team will relax over the next two days of the Labor Day weekend, before traveling to New Rochelle, NY on Wednesday to take on Monroe College.
