Lady Lions Win Double OT Thriller

Lady Lions Win Double OT Thriller

After a scoreless first half on Sunday afternoon The King's College Women's Soccer Team and the University of Valley Forge Patriots erupted for 5 goals in the second half and overtime as TKC prevailed 3-2 in an electrifying win on Randall's Island.

TKC outshot Valley Forge 7-3 in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net as the first half ended 0-0. But just 30 seconds into the second half, Valley Forge junior Kelsey Morrison put home a penalty kick for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 Patriots lead. Just ten minutes later TKC sophomore Madeline Tyler would answer back with her fifth goal of the season as she placed a penalty kick of her own into the netting to tie the score 1-1. In the 62nd minute Valley Forge would pull ahead again 2-1 just before TKC Ann Marie Carlson tied it up again at 2-2 as she rocketed a shot from 25 yards out. The score would remain knotted 2-2 for the next 23 minutes as regulation time ran out. Although TKC had outshot the Patriots 14-5 in regulation the two teams would head into golden goal overtime.

TKC outshot Valley Forge 4-0 in overtime and 18-5 for the game and maintained an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. However, it was not until the 104th minute that King's would put the game away as sophomore Joanna Overmeyer raced in on a breakaway and buried the gamewinner for a 3-2 TKC victory.

TKC improved their overall record to 3-6 while Valley Forge falls to 2-9.
