The Lady Lions Drop Season Opener to the Maccabees

On Thursday, November 15th, the Lady Lions opened their season, playing the Maccabees from Yeshiva University.

The Lady Lions came out strong in the first quarter, putting up the first seven points of the game, not allowing the Maccabees to score until a foul was called and two free throws were given.

The Lady Lions ended this quarter ahead of the Maccabees by two points, 16-14. Sophomore Bailey Kaufman put up 75% of the score for the first quarter, with a total of 12 points. By the end of the game, Kaufman earned a double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

As the Lady Lions entered the second quarter, the Maccabees returned strong and put up 20 points, pulling ahead of the Lady Lions who were only able to put up six points this quarter. Unfortunately the Lady Lions were unable to run the offense needed to outscore the Maccabees and dropped this game 69-43.

Though the Lady Lions did not come out with the win, their defensive skills showed in this game, with a total of 35 defensive rebounds, the top contributors being Kaufman grabbing 6 defensive rebounds and Freshman Sydni Brown following close behind, with 5 defensive rebounds.
