Track and Field Team Competes in the HVIAC Championships

On Saturday, April 13th, the Lions competed in the Panther Harrier HVIAC Track and Field Invitational held in Albany, NY. For many of our athletes this was their first meet of the season. We had three out of the five athletes who competed this weekend, win at least one medal.

Senior Jonathan Pressley ran in the 100M earning a time of 12.44, cutting down his time by 0.13 seconds from the last meet. His time in this meet was also 0.43 seconds faster than his time from last year's HVIAC Championships. Pressley also ran in the 200M receiving a time of 25.08, shaving off 1.26 seconds from the last meet. With his improved times, Pressley earned 3rd place in both of his events.

Junior Christina Lewis ran in 100M, earning a time of 14.45, finishing 0.29 seconds faster than her time from last meet and 0.99 seconds faster than her time from last year's HVIAC Championships. Lewis also ran in the 200M receiving a time of 32.00 seconds. Lewis earned 2nd place in both of her races.

For our next three athletes, this was their first time competing in a track and field meet with TKC Athletics.

Sophomore Ty Hutchins, who is also on the Men's Basketball team, put up some fast times and was edged out of medal contention by milliseconds for both of his races. Hutchins ran an impressive 12.47 second in his 100M, falling 0.03 seconds behind Pressley. Hutchins also ran in the 200M earning a time of 26.91, once again being shy of 3rd place by 1.83 seconds.

Freshman Eli Hixon, who ran Cross Country for the Lions last semester, ran in his first meet of the season. Hixon was able to win his heat in the 400M, with a time of 1:02.58, which was just 2.39 seconds behind the 3rd place finisher. Hixon ran in the 200M, finishing with a time of 27.58 seconds, beating out three athletes.

Freshman Lauren Pannell, who also ran Cross Country in the Fall, competed in the 400M, despite recovering from an ankle injury that occured a week before. Pannell was the only athlete of the Lions to take home a 1st place medal in her race. Pannell finished with a time of 1:20.77.

UP NEXT: The Lions will be heading to Hartford, CT to compete in the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday April 20th.
