Men's Soccer Smith Slays the Steels

King's Men's Soccer Spencer Smith chases down a loose ball.

The King's College Men's Soccer team defeated the Culinary Institute of America Steels 9-0 on Sunday in Newburgh, NY. as freshman forward Spencer Smith erupted for 5 goals and 1 assist. His 5 goals came on just 6 shots on goal as he scored the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th goals of the match. Smith also played a part in the first goal of the game which turned out to be the game winner when he and junior Daniel Fuenzalida combined to set up junior Josiah Simons to give King's a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.

Simons added his second goal of the game in the 27th minute to increase the margin to 3-0. Behind the scoring outburst of Smith and Simons, King's led 5-0 at halftime. Freshman Jobe Ferguson scored in the 72nd minute and then assisted on a strike by freshman Isaiah Williams eight minutes later.  

The Lions controlled the game from start to finish with a 29-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

King's goalkeepers Craig Wishart and Benjamin Borchelt combined for the shutout each making 2 saves.

The win improved King's overall record to 6-1 and evened their HVIAC record to 1-1.
