Lions Defeat the Steels of CIA

On Saturday, December 1st, the Lions took the victory over the Steels from Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in a 55-49 win.

Only having a five point lead, heading into the second half, the Lions would have to outwork the Steels for the remainder of the game in order to secure the win. With a close scoring match up in the second half, the Lions were able to maintain their lead, improving their record to 3-3.

Freshman Jordan Bishop put up the most points of both teams, with a grand total of 24, consisting of 10 free throws and seven two-point shots being made. With Bishop's performance in the past three games, he earned HVIAC Player of the Week, a title generally reserved for upperclassmen, but also given to talented freshmen like himself.

Matching the incredible offense played by Bishop, freshman Ben Oldham played great defense, taking down the most rebounds of both teams, with a total of 15, nine defensive and six offensive. Senior Will Doerger was able to snatch 13 defensive rebounds and contribute four points to help the Lions.

Freshman Tyler Bowens put up nine points, while senior Benjamin Borchelt followed close behind putting up eight points for the Lions.

NEXT UP: The Lions will be facing a top-ranked team in the HVIAC Conference, Berkeley-NYC Knights, in an away game on Wednesday, December 5th, at Pratt (8:30pm).
