Trouwborst Buzzer Beater Beats Cooper Union

Trouwborst Buzzer Beater Beats Cooper Union

The King's College Men's Basketball team finished off their season Friday night with a win over local rival Cooper Union here in New York City. The team finished 4-14 but won two of their last four games and also had a heartbreaking overtime loss as well.

There was no lack of drama in the Lion's season finale on Friday night. TKC and Cooper Union were locked in a back and forth battle as King's took a 32-25 halftime lead. However, Cooper Union showed some resolve and outscored King's 41-26 in the second half. With 10 seconds remaining and the score tied 66-66, TKC was in possession and sophomore guard Trivette Knowles drove through the lane but could not find an opening to the basket. With time winding down to the final seconds, Knowles spun around and kicked a pass out to Caleb Trouwburst just inside the free throw line.  The senior faked a shot to elude a Cooper player and put up a jumper which bounced off the rim and actually went higher than the backboard. The crowd was breathless for a moment as the ball came back down. As it fell through the hoop and kissed the netting, the buzzer sounded and King's came away with a pulsating 68-66 win.

While Trouwburst had a moment which will last a lifetime, fellow senior James Brooks had yet another strong performance with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The two four year team members gave everything they had all season long and certainly in this last game of their collegiate careers.

They were aided by sophomore Knowles who turned in a dominating 20 minutes with 32 points and 4 steals. Junior Carter Fletcher, returning from a back injury, had 6 points and 5 rebounds while freshman Justin Cox added 2 points and 2 steals.
